Hazing Violations

The University of Northern Iowa is committed to providing a safe education environment and does not tolerate hazing by any group or individual affiliated with the University.

University of Northern Iowa students should expect engaging experiences as potential members or members of student organizations, where they are treated with respect. Hazing does not have a place in our community, as a part of our experience, or within our student organization culture.

The University expects that students and student organizations will observe and comply with state law and University policy related to hazing. The University will take disciplinary action for hazing that takes place during official university functions, during functions held by registered or sponsored student organizations, or incidents that have a substantial connection to the interests of the University, wherever they occur.

‌University Policy:

  • The university ppolicy on hazing, as contained in the Student Conduct Code in UNI Policies, is as follows:
    • Hazing: An act that endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student, or that destroys or removes public or private property, for the purpose of intimidation, admission into, affiliation with, or as a condition for continued membership in a group or organization.
